President Donald Trump may be on the brink of sparking a full-blown famine in Yemen ― all because of a subtle shift in messaging that risks effectively cutting off humanitarian relief to the war-torn nation.

The Houthi rebels currently control the port city of Hodeidah, which receives a large portion of Yemen’s humanitarian aid and supplies. The Obama administration along with the Saudi-led coalition avoided attacking this port for that reason.

Yemen’s president, who is allied with the coalition, has been directing aid away from the port and instead to Aden. Is this in preparation for an attack? An attack on the city could severely disrupt aid and food deliveries throughout the whole country.
