From AhlulBayt News Agency:

According to anonymous sources and reports, Yemen’s ousted President Hadi’s government leased the islands of Socotra and Abd al-Kuri to the United Arab Emirates for 99 years in 2014. The sources also say that the UAE has sent envoys to Socotra to pay large amounts of cash to local authorities and other people of influence in order to gain their approval.

Yemeni sources have revealed that the United Arab Emirates (UAE) is trying to establish control over the strategic island of Socotra in the Arabian Sea, which resigned president Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi had rented out to the Persian Gulf kingdom for nearly a century.

An Emirati airline, Rotana Jet based in Abu Dhabi, has also recently begun flights to Socotra when for the past two years of war, almost no flights traveled to and from the island.
