1 person every hour is dying from cholera, a preventable disease. The disease has spread through 19 of Yemen’s 22 provinces and has surpassed 100,000 cases. 798 people have died since the outbreak began.
Most of those infected will have no or mild symptoms but, in severe cases, the disease can kill within hours if left untreated.
More than half of Yemen’s medical facilities are no longer functioning due to the war.
Yemeni children suspected of being infected with cholera receive treatment at a makeshift hospital in Sanaa on June 5, 2017. Yemen is descending into total collapse, its people facing war, famine and a deadly outbreak of cholera, as the world watches, the UN aid chief said.
