A Yemeni doctor checks a child suspected of being infected with cholera at a makeshift hospital in Sanaa on June 9, 2017. Yemen is descending into total collapse, its people facing war, famine and a deadly outbreak of cholera, as the world watches, the UN aid chief said.

From Anadolu Agency:

Cholera has spread to one more province in Yemen. It was recently at 19, now at 20. 116,700 suspected cases have been recorded and 859 people have died since April 27th.

On June 7th those numbers were 101,820 suspected cases with 791 deaths.

Meanwhile from Asharq Al-Awsat:

Nothing to see here! The cholera epidemic ain’t that bad! 98% of patients have survived. Yay!

Yemeni officials accused Houthi and Saleh militias of manipulating the number of cholera deaths in Yemen.

According to a Saudi official, a meeting was held in Riyadh and witnessed Yemeni officials’ complaint over the exploitation of the disease through including deaths of natural causes with deaths from cholera.

Baoum confirmed such reports, saying that the necessary measures have been taken to monitor the patients, adding that reports issued by Houthis should not be trusted.

What on earth…? How many international aid organizations do you need to tell you that this is a problem? First the Saudi lie about bombing civilians, now they have to lie about the number of people dying from a disease too?

One person dying from cholera due to this war is one too many.

And what are we considering as “deaths of natural causes” here? Ya sure they’re all natural, Yemeni officials? Shouldn’t 859 people dying so suddenly be a bit concerning, no matter how it happened?
