From The Wire:
Oman’s state media shared a photo Tuesday of Father Tom Uzhunnalil, a priest from India who was kidnapped at gunpoint in Yemen in March of last year. He has been freed and appears to be in good health.
Omani authorities had coordinated with “Yemeni parties” to locate Uzhunnalil and transfer him to the sultanate. He will return home to India, it said, without mentioning which group had been holding him in Yemen.
“I am happy to inform that Father Tom Uzhunnalil has been rescued,” the external affairs minister Sushma Swaraj wrote on Twitter.
Oman has frequently helped facilitate the release of foreign nationals detained in Yemen.
From US News & World Report:
When Father Tom was kidnapped at a care home last March in Aden, the gunmen killed four Indian nuns, two Yemeni female staff members, eight elderly residents, and a guard.
He is now being transferred to Oman’s capital city Muscat.
Here is the video that was made a few months ago of Father Tom begging for his life.
