Another perspective of the forces from the United Arab Emirates on Yemen’s Socotra island. See yesterday’s post for the news report from Al Jazeera which says the island has been occupied by the UAE.
From The National:
According to the UAE’s minister of foreign affairs, the UAE has sent forces to Socotra to support the residents there.
Anwar Gargash said on Twitter on Friday that the UAE has historic and family ties to the island in the Arabian Gulf. “We will support [Socotra’s residents], in stability, health care, education, and living [conditions],” he said.
The article also says that the Yemeni government has been neglecting the island while the UAE has made trips to the UAE available to Socotra residents in need of medical treatment and also has bought land to build a factory, prison, and other facilities.
