Not knowing what I would find, I Googled Purple Yemen.
I FOUND STAMPS!
Anyone else fascinated by postage stamps from other countries? I have some beautiful, never mailed stamps that I got in Japan. But I also just love receiving mail from other countries because of the stamps! I do not have any of my own stamps from Yemen, unfortunately, so Google is my savior.
Important note: THERE ARE CAT STAMPS AHEAD!
The Moutawakilite Kingdom of Yemen was a monarchy from 1918 – 1962, which followed the Yemen Vilayet of the Ottoman Empire. It later became North Yemen (Yemen Arab Republic) until 1990.
The Federation of South Arabia was a British Protectorate that would eventually form South Yemen. South Yemen eventually united with the Yemen Arab Republic in 1990.
Also known as the People’s Democratic Republic of Yemen, or South Yemen, from 1967 – 1990. The new name was printed over the old one.
And that is where the stamp journey ends. There might be more recent ones out there, but they became less and less purple over the years.
